Apple iPad Mini MF120LL/A Review

The 2012 release of Apple's first-generation iPad mini met with great success, eventually outselling the full-size iPad and setting a standard for all miniature tablets to follow. Apple's goal with the iPad mini was to deliver the same experience as the larger iPad but in a smaller and more portable package. The original iPad mini, while getting a lot of things right, fell somewhat short of this mark due to its outdated iPad 2 display and hardware. However, Apple has rectified this with the release of their second-generation iPad mini by updating to the higher-resolution Retina display and upgrading the mini's hardware.

An iPhone inspired design
Apple's first-generation iPad mini debuted with a revolutionary new design inspired by the compact and economical style of Apple's popular iPhone. In contrast to the boxy rectangular shape of the iPad 4, the iPad mini featured much thinner bezels; giving the mini a more streamlined look and making it easier to hold on to the tablet using a single hand. Apple also deviated from the standard coloration of the iPad's shell; borrowing the black-slate and white-silver metallic finishes of the iPhone 5 for the design of the iPad mini's aluminum casing.

The Apple iPad mini MF120LL/A features the same thin light-weight design, unibody construction, and stylish metallic finish as the original mini. To the naked eye not much has changed. However, the second-generation iPad mini is actually slightly thicker and slightly heavier than the original due to the addition of a larger battery to power the higher-resolution Retina display. Other than these miniscule adjustments the iPad mini MF120LL/A looks identical to Apple's first-generation mini tablet.

Finally an iPad mini with Retina display
Apple's high-definition Retina technology has been a very popular display feature since it was first revealed on the iPad 3. The original iPad mini lacked this feature and Apple opted instead for a lower-resolution iPad 2 display. However, Apple made up for it with the addition of a Retina display for the second-generation iPad mini, finally giving fans what they have all been asking for.

The Apple iPad mini MF120LL/A features a 7.9-inch Retina display with a full-HD 2048x1536 resolution. The 3.1-million-pixel Retina display is double the resolution of the original iPad mini and the difference is stunning! The quality of the graphics have vastly improved. Text now appears smoother and much easier on the eyes than before. Colors on the iPad mini MF120LL/A appear incredibly rich and true, and constrast looks superb. The Retina's viewing angles are also nice and wide.

Four times the performance of the original iPad mini
The original first-generation iPad mini ran on outdated iPad 2 era hardware. However, Apple added some serious internal upgrades to the second-generation mini, bringing the hardware up to par with Apple's larger iPad Air tablet. At the heart of the iPad mini MF120LL/A beats Apple's new A7 chip set featuring 64-bit desktop-class architecture with advanced quad-core graphics. The A7 brings with it four times the processing power, and up to eight times the graphics power, of the original mini's A5 chip. The Apple iPad mini MF120LL/A also comes with twice the system memory of Apple's first-gen tablet. These upgrades result is an impressive boost in overall performance and power!

All day battery life
Apple also increased the battery size of the second-generation iPad mini MF120LL/A, from the smaller 16.3 Watt-hour 4440 mAh size of the original mini, to a larger 23.8 Wh 6471 mAh battery.
