Apple iPhone 12 Mini MG673LL/A Review

Apple's iPhone 12 mini MG673LL/A serves as an alternative for those wanting a smartphone with the same features as the full-sized iPhone 12 but in a smaller package and with a cheaper price tag. You'll still get all the bells and whistles that the iPhone 12 offers, like the sleek and slender design, the upgraded hardware, faster A14 processor, camera upgrades, 5G network connectivity, and the vibrant new Super Retina XDR OLED display.

A smaller form factor
The Apple iPhone 12 mini MG673LL/A features the same minimalistic design style as the larger iPhone that it is based on with but with some reductions here and there to the physical dimensions to create what is, as it's namesake implies, a mini version of the iPhone 12. The width of the device casing has been reduced by around 7 millimeters and the height has been shortened by about 15 millimeters, whereas the depth measurement is the same as the larger iPhone. The weight of the iPhone 12 mini MG673LL/A is has also been reduced by around 30 grams which leaves it weighing in at a lighter 135 grams total. You can still choose between the same six color schemes that are available for the standard iPhone 12, black, white, blue, green, red, and purple.

An exclusive ceramic hardened glass screen
It may not be very noticeable at first glance but certainly one of the more interesting external upgrades to the Apple iPhone 12 mini MG673LL/A is the new ceramic hardened glass screen. Called the ceramic shield, the new screen tech offers greater scratch and damage resistance than the more common gorilla glass used on previous iPhones and Android smartphones. Apple states that the ceramic shield provides up to four times greater performance in drop tests and is tougher than any smartphone glass currently on the market.

A color rich and vibrant display
Now this is where Apple's iPhone 12 mini MG673LL/A really shines and it is immediately noticeable. The mini features the same Super Retina XDR OLED display that you'll find on the larger iPhone 12 and it's still sweet to behold when compared to the older IPS technology used in previous generation iPhones. Colors still appear rich and more vibrant than ever before and the HDR technology also provides greater luminance and higher contrast ratio than Apple's previous Liquid Retina displays. Some differences to note here though are the smaller display size and slightly different resolution of the iPhone 12 mini MG673LL/A than the standard iPhone. These differences are to be expected though due to the mini's smaller form factor.

More processing power
At the core of the iPhone 12 mini MG673LL/A is Apple's next-gen A14 64-bit six-core 3.0 GHz ARMv8 bionic processor. Apple boasts that the A14 provides up to 40 percent faster CPU processing power and 30 percent increased GPU operating performance than the A12 processor used in previous gen iPhones. The Apple A14 chip also includes a new image processor for improved photographic capabilities, a 38 percent increase in transistor count due to the 5nm fabrication process, double the neural engine cores, and a higher max clock speed when compared to Apple's A13 processor.
